It didn't smoke or make any bad sounds so hopefully just some bearings.

I was getting ready to pull it anyway to have the heads massaged and a new custom ground cam done by bullet:bling:.

I'm thinking the oil pickup or something like that

I'll keep ya posted

Dropped the pan last Thursday and one of the ears had broken off of the oil pump.

Checked rod bearings and main bearings and everything looked like new:rock:

Dodged a bullet on that one:cool4:

WTF!!!!! Broke another pump after only 15 passes:veryangry:

It did the very same thing that it did before.....just as soon as I lifted at the 1/8th mile mark the oil light come on and my pressure was flickering from 0-5psi just like before.

Motor's coming out and going to the shop for some head work and a new Bullet cam and to see what's causing these pumps to break all of a sudden.

Might be time to just get an aftermarket block.

Oh man that sucks. I had a fellow racer who had a 800 hp 410 sbc in his rear engine dragster and he kept breaking ppumps as well and here his rear main cap was broken. Good luck

Try 15 - 40W oil. I bet that goop 20 -50 you're using is cauisng whiplash when you let off :laughoutloud:. If you're using a high volume pump, that my be another reason. Milodon makes a real nice $$$$$ pump for SBCs.

Is this by chance a Melling pump? There are several threads on other boards about a redesign causing this...

Yes Sir!! The first pump was a high volume Melling pump and it broke one of the ears at the base where it bolts to the block and was pushing oil out the side.

New pump is a Shuman which is thicker at the base but evidently broke also.
I haven't pulled the pan...figured I'd let the engine builder do that so he can see it fresh for himself.

Man I love that sig of yours!!!!!!

I would but I'm running alcohol and it was recommended that I run the 20-50.

Motor is going to a HIGHER end builder this time so we'll see what he recommends this time....might end up back on race gas.

Oh... An alky eh? Better stop drinking that stuff, it'll kill you.:laughoutloud:
I didn't know you were running bug juice. If you go back to R gas = carb changes, cam etc?
