Ok so my s10 always gets 210 and higher I have never been able to get it to run cooler. So I built the truck with a 350 it has a radiator for an 80s camaro which was new and a 190 thermostat and 2 10" electric fans . I have since then cut the center out of the thermostat because it never closed anyways and it seemed to help a little but nothing like I hoped. Oh and it also has a 350 turbo with a 2800 stall converter and a trans cooler . Any help would be appreciated if you need more info just ask I built the truck with my dad so I know what's in it .

What's your ignition timing?

you did not mention whether the fans were pushers or pullers. They do a much better job as pullers and a shroud is very important.

Not sure on the timing. And the fans are pushers I have them on the front of the radiator cause there isn't enough room between the motor and the radiator

Be sure the blades are turned properly. An electric fan can be wired to either push or pull, but most come with the blades set up for pulling. If you push, the blades needs to be flipped to move the air properly...

10" fans will never cut the mustard in Florida, especially as pushers. I used a 98 up Intrepid fan, and a 19x31 aluminum radiator, and it cools my .080 over 350, (with AC) very well. Is your radiator in the forward position, set forward into the core support? If not, you may want to consider doing that, and use the Intrepid fan setup. My truck runs 185° or lower, no matter what. Bumper to bumper stop and go traffic, with the AC on, no problem, bring it on,
What size is that Camaro radiator and what material is it made of? You can get a custom built Dillon all aluminum radiator in a bunch of different sizes for less than $200, a 19x31 and the Intrepid fan would cool even stout a 454 no problem. :cool4:

This is my truck build thread, http://www.s10racer.com/board/showthread.php?t=3150 , if you scroll about halfway down the page, you'll see the mods I did to get that big ass radiator in there, along with moving the the AC condenser forward of the core support. If I can be of any further assistance, let me know, :cool4:

Not sure on the timing.

You really need to know what your timing is - this is a major item that affects overall engine cooling.

Depending on your cam I'd shoot for around 15 base with 20 mechanical advance in at around 3000rpm and another 12 or so vacuum advance (if street driven) as a starting point.

There's at least 15 to 20 degrees of temperature change in there if the engine timing is off, and the engine will be much slower to get up in the "danger zone" once you get it right and find what the engine wants.

X2!!

What sits higher? The radiator or the water neck on the block?
You have to make sure all the air is out of the system.

I've been busy at work so I didn't get on here till now but to answer the questions. The radiator is 19x32x2 and its brass. And the radiator is higher than the water neck. As for the timing I will have to get a timing light and check it.

Ok, Being the rad. is higher, thats good.
I would say its going to be the timing, unless the rad. is having problems.

I just had the rad repaired by a shop that I have used before because it was leaking so I'm sure the rad is fine.

What type of water pump and pulley set up are you running?

Stock water pump v belt pulley with only crank, water pump, and alt

If all the components check out and the timing is right..
You most likely have air in the system or.. Something is clogging the water passages.
When the truck is running, Can you open the radiator cap and see water moving?

What did the stock pump come off of? If it was originally on a serpentine set up, it is reverse rotation...

x2 and even a cheapie high flow water pump will make a difference too

May I go as far to say that I just don't think its any one thing.

Replace the stat with a brand new 185-195 stat. (on a personal note I recommend a 195. In my years of street trucks I learned it was easiier to cool a v8 s-truck if you let em run a little on the high side which 190-200 is not that hot.)

Second. In my opinion I don't think your rad is up to par. I tried all kinds of rads and the corvette rad is the one that has always worked best for me. Less radical applications can use the stock 4.3 rad.

Third. Those fans got to go. Puller fans are always better then pushers and two 10" fans just ain't up to par. Theres tons of differant options but my recommendation is to use the Taurus/Sable eletric puller fan. Not only does it cause my idle to drop when it kicks on (lol draws 30 amps!) it will actually pull your shirt away from your body and up against the grill if you get close enough.

Forth. Timing Timing Timing. Not only is this critical to engine performance and economy, it can affect engine temperature as well.

Good luck. Hope I could be of some help

Its a stock pump for the motor the water is running the correct way im pretty sure there isn't any air in the system I haven't checked the timing yet. I need to get my dads timing light and check it. But work is so busy I haven't had time to get the light. I should this weekend or next.

What year Taurus would the fan be out of?

It's this body style. And I think it's a 3.8L motor. I'll see if I can find my conversion book (I bought it when I was 17, over 10 yrs ago) and find out what year it is.
