I currently have a 406 with 10.1 comp, vic jr intake ,brodix ik 200 heads as cast 3500 stall 3.73 gear short box. I have been thinking of changing to comp cam 280ar its a small solid roller. currently i have a herbert solid flattappet 254 -263 @.50 534-555 gross lift. the 280ar is 236@.50 with 555 gross lift on both sides. My question is do you think it will run a better quarter mile et? Or do you think just stay with what i have? As with all of us i dont want to waste money and be disappointed. I would consider a bigger solid roller but ptv clearance could be an issue although i have yet to check it. current combo went 11.5 at 116 best pass to date.

I would suggest call up crower and comp cams and ask a few what they suggest for your combo

I bet it would..
They pretty much have it all down to a science..
Check with Bullet too.
Never hurts to just call and ask.

My experience with comp. cams is they tend to be alittle on the conservative side . what pistons are you running?

speed pro hypers # zh601p-30 is the number of my pistons in summit i might try the cam just unsure what to think at this point maybe i should call a few other cam companys and compare prices and cam specs. I know bigger isnt always better but theres quite a difference from my current herbert recommended cam and the comp cam 280ar.

bent while running. They were installed in two different blocks with different heads. one was a std base circle and the other was a small base. I think it was the cores they were using. Hard to toss $300 a pop into the trash can.

take a look at the specs for your heads (by the way great site, should add a stickey).

looks like stock more lift wouldn't do much good the heads are petering out around there (.555) but there are 40hp to gain with some port work. if u have the cash to spend i would get the heads ported (figure 1500 for port work valve job and new springs) go to a roller and wake that motor up!!!! or just be happy cause that is one fast s-10:rock:

great sticky yeah i dont have the extra money this year maybe next year i like the heads just want a lil more power i would like to go 11 flat but i dont know if porting and roller cam will get me there to be honest. Phil we will have to hook up my dad has an s10 to we go to the track once in awhile not enough though we work like dogs. i dont go to sony to much trouble anymore.

He'd be the best I know to port heads.

I know what you mean about work, Ron. That's why I haven't made it to the track in a while. I leave work and come home and work on the house.
Street racing can get you in trouble. I was just curious. lol

yeah i work six 10 hour days so time is limited. I have heard of jake never had him do anything rhodes performance does my block work i assemble my own motors to paticular. i shouldnt need a valve job the heads only have about 500 miles on them since i bought them new. street racing is fun though but the police have cracked down so i stay away thats the last thing i need. lol.

Crappy Ron. 11.80's. Carb's messed up. Wouldn't idle, and bucking at light throttle. Ordered a new one today. Should be done by next Tuesday. Hope that'll straighten it out to the point I can spray it.

383 10.4:1. Forged, billet 6" rods. It's a street truck. There's an old Barry Grant 750 on it now, before he started making Demon's. It's really a Holley 4150 that he went over. It's old, and probably worn out. Might send it to Pro Systems to see what they can do with it.

yeah i have seen those they are older but i think he took alot more time in making them better then. you may be ahead to just buy one from prosystem i dont know if theres a huge difference in price though. worth the check though.
