weld up kit

1-3/4" tubes with 3" collectors

Very nice flanges with this kit. They are 3/8" thick! But the ports are 1-1/2" wide by 1-7/8" high so I'm going to have to try to figure out the best way to go about it when it comes to mocking those up. Since I can't just shove the pipe through without shaping it to fit first. Maybe I should shape some short tubes about 3" long to the flanges first and go from there.

What I did was take some 1/2 plate pieces and cut them and welded them until I had the shape I wanted at the bottom. funneled out about 3 inches up to a size bigger than the tube, and used a lead filled rubber mallet and used it to force the tube to the bottom on the jig to form mine, easier than it sounds, but a pain at times to get it back out...

I have made a couple of pairs..
You know.. there is enough room on the flanges to make this work..
Don't try to make the pipe fit the flanges.. make the flanges fit the pipe :idea3:
A little die grinder with a good bit goes a long way..

Use a large metal worm gear clamp or some large tie wraps for mock up..
Also use a steel coat hanger to get the shape first before cutting..

Your imagination goes a long way.. I am sure you have something around
you can use for mock up before the first cut is done..

Get some Carlon from Home Depot and tape the coat hanger to it to hold its shape.

I'm sure it's a pain in the ass to make them... But the one thing that always stayed with me is what a friend once said... "Why don't you make it yourself? You know it was just another person that fabricated that... right?"

Ever since then, I try my hand at anything.

I hear you..
I just finished some brackets you could have bought for about 60 bucks..
I have about 4 hours in them.. But mine are thicker and more evil looking ;)

Yeah, I know what you mean. I built a 78 Toyota Celica with a 63 Buick aluminum 215 v8 and 5 speed. The headers sort of s***ed. No patterns, just mandrel 90s and 45s. It took a long time, like 20 hours. When I finally go home, I'll post some pics.
BTW, the swap was sort of trick. It looked pretty cool. It also got pretty great mileage on the hiway- 24 MPG in 5th. (stock engine)

Hey dont let them scare you they are not as bad as you think. Its scary to build a set if you let it think it out and they will be fine, Helpful hint go to harbor freight and get a tail pipe expander about 10$ insert it in the following tube about a 1'' -1/12'' expand it so the upward pipe will slide in at a good fit. It makes it a easy fit and easy weld. Here are a couple pics of mine that I made with the same kit. Hope that this will help

Sorry I haven't been on in a while... Very nice work indeed! I would like to turn them under the rockers when I get to it.

Got some motivation cuz I was on the verge of giving up again. I have the brackets made just now for the front and mid engine plates. I will load it on the trailer to bring it to my work on Monday to get them burned in.

As for drive shaft... I measured from the seal on the tail shaft of an empty tranny case to the middle of the u-joint. I got 62-3/4". So I don't think I'll have a drive shaft issue due to length.

I just got on this site at the moment to find the thread on Diabolical's transmission crossmember for ideas :)

Later guys/gals!

I know it's taken quite a long time but only in the past few weeks have I managed to get the motor plate and mid plate brackets welded in! I was also able to take a better measurement for my drive shaft. It no longer looks like the length will be an issue. I'm going back tomorrow to set the mock up block in place along with the tranny case and take some measurements to fab up my crossmember.
