Going to probably build a trailer over the next year. What I'm thinking of doing is an open car trailer and plunk a tent trailer frame on the front. kinda like this...

Screw building a trailer. We are currently building one similar to the first pice, except instead of a camper it is a nice size toolbox, that will house the generator, nitrous bottles, winch, tools etc etc. And let me tell you. I have atleast 40-50 hours MINIMUM in that thing and have atleast another 10-20 left. PITA.
But, I will say this, it does look alot better than the way it was when we got the thing.

I hear ya... but I can't afford to buy one out right. besides, we sell trailer parts which makes the cost factor much better :)

I think my dad has almost $800 in just metal material and that was for the new decking and ramp setup. Well add lights and wiring. But that is no biggie.
If you enjoy fabricating it is great. But if you are crunched for time. FORGET ABOUT IT! lol

The other idea I had was to put a trailer on air bags. Get to the track, drop the air... no ramps needed!!! Then I saw this...

Browse through the pics... The way I see it, seems like it would actually be lass maintenance. I work at a place that sells trailer parts. We are constantly selling the nylon bushings, equalizers and what not. In this set up, only thing (suspension wise) aside from the air bags to wear out is the from arm bushings.

Thanks... Nice idea huh? I already have 4 identical air bags at work! They are rated for a little over 2100 lbs each @ 100 psi so no probs with a 3500 lbs axle. In those pics the guy has either 5200 lbs axles or 6000 lbs axles. That exceeds the weight limit LOL
Those are Firestone bags, I have a Goodyear crossover book that tells me the have a travel of just under 3" to 9.1". So I have to engineer the trailer so when the bags are at about 3.5" in height, I'll have the rear of the bed on the ground.
I'll need a pair of dropped and under-slung axles for the job. Then figure out the drop on the arms.
Also need to figure out a mechanism that will let me keep towing should there be a failure in the system. So the trailer wont be dragging on the ground. Let me get home and fix it.
