A while back my speedometer cable got too close to the exhaust and melted the plastic and snapped the cable. I replaced the cable and it didn't work. Took the drive shaft off and removed the tail shaft housing. It's a TH 350. Found this.

This clip that holds the gear was laying in the bottom.

I need to know which way the clip goes in. Does it go this way so the gear can't slide toward the drive shaft?

Or does it go this way so the gear can't slide toward the front of the trans?
