Ok i'm going saturday to look at a 96 S-10 with a 4.3 for a driver. To start with I want a new ls 5.7 all stock but the cam with a good turbo. I will probably run an air to air intercooler. What tranny was the automatic 4.3 trucks? 4l60e? It will have a 9" from my race truck hand me down and I will use the rear pro stars. They are 15/10 with 5.5bs. Will this work with a 295/50/15 and not stick out. Wanting it to have good power but be a sleeper all but rims. Even stock hood and a quiet exhaust. And all stock interior including ac. Probably go with a 2500 to 3000 stall. Any input appreciated.:disguise:

If your planning any power more than stock the 4L60e will not handle it in stock form. I beleive the trucks had 4L80e's. The 4L60e's can barely handle the LT1. I'm waiting for it to go then build it up.

Please clarify. What did the S-10 come with with a 4.3 automatic. Are you talking about the 4l80e in the full sizes?

And if the 4l60 and 4l80 are too expensive to make live I have a nice built turbo 350 out of my last truck.

4l60e is what came in the s-10's. They "can" be built to last. But a stocker is on borrowed time. Kinda like a stock 7.5" rearend. :D

We are spraying a healthy 125 shot through the lt1 /4l60e combo in the blazer and it is holding so far. *knock on wood* It is a heavy truck and I haven't sprayed it from home yet. Don't know if the rear will go or the transmission.

Guess I should "sneak" some shots this weekend. :laughoutloud:

How would I make the speedo work with the turbo 350

I believe you will need an electronic adapter of sorts.

GO 4l60e and you "should" be fine. We are still running the stocker in dads 01 blazer and haven't had any issues yet. but than again we aren't 600 hp either.

The 4L60e in the s10's is a weaker version of the one in the F-body. The F-body trans has corvette servos installed and better valving. The s10 version will work in stock form but will be on borrowed time without a beef up.

You can use the th350 but will need to get a gear for an electronic pick up. When all said and done you may be at the same cost as if you stuck with the electronic tranny. Or just use the th350 and get a mechanical speedo.

I run the stock 4L60e from the fbody in mine as Lxtasy mentioned.
And of course get a bigger stall. For streetability I'm looking at a 2800 stall when I do HCI. My stock fbody one is probably in the 1800 stall area.

Shooting the 4L60e from home will tear the tranny up before the rear. I've heard that from more than one tranny guy. So, I'll need tranny mods before home shots are tried. But, what I don't know, I don't see....lol

We shall see this weekend. DO need to get a new pill to still lean the nitrous out so we can "let em hang"

Have to try the new tires out anyways right?

I think I have talked myself out of this truck. If anyone wants a 2nd gen running all but the rear end I know where one is for $488. I think I'm just going to Start working on my race truck to keep my mind occupied instead of diving into another project
