Anyone from South Carolina know a good transmission shop to have one rebuilt at? It's going behind a 10:1 383 so I don't need a full out race trans. Or at least a suggestion who to stay away from and why?

I suggest to stay away from the 700R4. They are not a very strong transmission and will need frequent freshen ups.

I disagree Scotty, I ran a later model 30 spline 700R4 for over 130,000 miles, drivin it like I stole it, daily driving, drag racing, towing my boats and the race car, etc. before I finally broke it. Rebuilt it, and now it's in my new truck,

A 2004R would take a shit ton of abuse with a few aftermarket parts.
