Is it a good idea to mount the motor in with a front plate and a mid plate instead of using the motor mounts.

I know my current goal is pretty slow at 7.50's or low 8.00 in the 8th but this truck will be a continuous project. I eventually want to get it back halved and put alot more power to in in the future.

Would it be a good idea to go ahead and set it up like that. (i want it done right the first time)

also where is the best place to buy them at and what ones. I will not installing it a good freind of mine that is a great welder will be.

In my opinion if you plan on this thing eventually needing them you might as well set it up for them now so you don't have to worry about it later. You still have to run motor mounts running plates doesn't mean you don't need them. Motor plates are to keep the motor from twisting and side to side movement that might happen as the mount wears not to actually hold the motor in the vehicle.

I've never run motor plates and mounts both, either one or the other. It's a good idea to run a longitudinal limiter(s) though, to keep from stressing the trans mount/tailshaft housing too much. :cool4:

I think I will set it up for motor plates and run motor mounts (longitundinal limiters)

Is there anywhere that prefabs them or will the universal SBC ones worth with a s10 with some triming and such.

I always make my own, so I'm not sure if there are any ready made ones or not. I make mine full width, 1 piece, and thick enough that it doesn't really need a limiter. Most of the limiters I've seen are just a link with two rod ends, tabs on the frame, and a plate on the motor with tabs on it. :cool4:

I'm running a universal motor plate and mid plate kit. No motor mounts or link bar...
These are what I have...
Just trim them to fit...

Front plate I suggest being the 2 piece version. 1 piece is a pain. Mid plate is good to go ahead and do at same time but I you use aluminium or thick steel make sure converter still engages the back of the crank. And if you run a tranny mount use polyurethane. Also with tranny mount you won't need longitudinal limiters.

what the hell is a longitudinal limiters lol

So for it to be installed correctly...

2 piece front plate set
steel mid mount set
and a poly transmission mount

(so no need for motor mounts?

Correct no need for motor mounts. The longitudinal limiters are to keep the motor from rocking forward or backward. But the tranny mount will be just fine instead. The plates work really well from motor torque. But when accelerating or braking the motor and tranny would want to shift forward or backward if nothing to support it longitudinally. And it could take out the tranny converter or thrust on the crank if not supported good. But I have installed the poly tranny mount on mine (slow) and several fast cars and it does just fine. And you can use a 1 piece front plate. But it gets kinda hard to manuver around the balancer and other obsticals.

Cool deal. I am missing the transmission cross member so it is the perfect time to get the cross member that Diabolical makes on here. It is a really nice piece.

I am trying to get as much done as I can until the very first of the year. Then I will have plenty of $$ to finish the truck. I want to go to that meet this site is putting on.
