Hey guys. I have a '91 s10 2wd short box. I have a 550-ish crank hp 6.0 in it. I have a th350 with a 3400 converter. Its got an 8.8 out back with 3.73's with a posi. I currently have a 26" tall regular tire on it. I will be going to a drag radial eventually. What would be my best bang for my buck for traction? This thing is retarded on the street. Its all over the place.

Drag radials would be the first thing to do. Even if you did traction bars, wheelie bars, shocks , etc etc. Regular street tires will still perform roughly the same. Put a drag radial on it first and than a traction bar of sorts.

My first reaction was to say to throw a few hundred pounds in the back, but then I thought I'd be nice. :stirpot:

Add a good set of drag radials as a starting point. Then see if you still need more.

I agree about the drag radials (or ET Streets), but you will almost definitely need a traction device as well. The Daggers are DEFINITELY a better bang for the $$ than Caltracs or Slide-a-links, IMHO, :cool4:

I was thinking about a 26" drag radial with the 3.73 gears I have. Should I go with a taller drag radial? Is a 26" to small for my gear ratio?

Yes get a 28" for sure. More sidewall will help with traction.

I was thinking 275/50 which gives me 10.5" of actual tread and a 26" height. Or a 275/60 which would give me less tread width at 9.5" and a height of 28". Its give or take. Would I need more tread to the ground and a smaller diameter or less tread to the ground and a little larger diameter? Larger tire=more give at launch?

I am a big fan of making it happen on 26's. 28's would numerically give you a lower gear ratio. We run 26's on the read blazer with 4.10 rear gear. And your hp calculations, are they proven or just calculations?

I am thinking you can make it work on some 26's.

I built my engine part for part off of a carcraft build. They dyno'd it at 551hp at 6700 rpm. So im at least 500hp i would say. I have a victor jr. on mine and they used a gmpp. The victor is taller and a little more aggressive so i might squeeze out a little more power on top.

^^^they can fudge the numbers on engine dynos quite a bit very easily to make them "read" more hp then what is actually produced.

im curious what youre making at the rear wheels

from what i hear mickey tompsons are pretty good but dont last as long as say nittos.

I'd start with good tires and shocks but plan for a set of bars also and you should be good.
