I switched over to man brakes awhile back, I installed a proportion valve on it and still after a year or so I still have very hard brake pedal. Truck stops fine and all, and doesn't pull side to side. But also seems the line lock will not hold very well either, just kinda slides the front tires. Is the front not getting enough pressure??
In the proportion valve instrucions it says to turn all the way in and count the number of turns out, then divide in half and turn to that amount (for a starting point)

the brakes are going to be hard there not power assits any more. as for the line lock if there sliding there holding or are there slipping and the tires turning? i have never used a porportioning vavle on any of my s10's. but that does'nt mean you don't need one. i'm sure someone will chime in

i used the stock porportion valve never touched it. i how that helps

I think if your front tires are sliding (locked and skidding) there's nothing you can do to change that unless you're running skinnies on the front - then you might have to go to wider treads for the street. If the tires are turning, then you might have to push harder on the brake pedal and then set the line lock. That's what I had to do - push harder- don't be afraid to assault the pedal - YO....:fighting15:
My line lock takes some heavy pedal action.
BTW, the proportioning valve only works on the rear brakes, to keep them from locking up before the front ones act up. The rears can lock up much more quickly than the front because weight transfer is shifted to the front when you brake hard. So, the proportioning valve actually slows pressure going rearward.

I realise htis is an older post. But, was the pushrod attatchment point raised on the pedal arm? If not the angle will be off causing a very stiff pedal.

Excellent point and I believe he is still battling with this issue..
Haven't seen RatDime in about a week.. Hmm
Hope the brakes didnt get him?

My brake pedal pushrod (s10) is in the stock position. It takes some pretty good pedal pressure to lock the fronts with the line lock. I also have a '64 Buick Special that has the same issue. The S10 line lock is with power brakes, the Buick has manual brakes. They both need some good bag to lock the fronts and set the line lock. Funny coincidence?

I went with hydroboost and love it so far. It seems to work very well and I have the best of both worlds. Power steering and power brakes. I use a sweet head mounted power steering unit made for a late model round track car from Speedway Motors.

I took a few and will post them. Its not that hard to do just make sure you get a hydroboost unit from a 1990-1993 Astro van. I bought mine at a local salvage yard for $20!! I got a rebuilt master cylinder at NAPA for $30 and I can help with part numbers if needed. I purchased a head mounted power steering pump from Speedway Motors for $189. I made my own lines from Jegs and it ended up costing me about $400.

I tried to post the photo's in the reply but couldn't for some reason. Go over to my photo's and I have some over there. Feel free to ask any questions.

I have a corvette master, that I got from travis, I hooked up a proportion valve and I adjusted way down were not much brakes going to rear then jacked up rear, ran in gear and tried brakes, and adjusted untill It was were I wanted it, as far as line loc, after going through the water box, and your stoped pump up brakes 2-3 times then set button, and get up on tire hard and it should hold
