Well my truck was a set of tires away from making a pass, and I decided to put it on a diet before it makes a pass. For starters I removed the bed and stripped the bedsides, and roll pan for furture use. I put the bed on the scale and these are the results:

Bed w/tailgate and steel tubs= 240Lbs
Tailgate only= 33Lbs

Right and Left Bedside only= 23Lbs Each
Steel rollpan= 13Lbs
The tailgate will be made out of alum. along with the bedcover for reduced weight

I will weight all other metal and alum. that will be added to finish project to see the actual weight loss. I am shooting for 150Lbs. I will also list the cost of this project for anyone interested. Pics will come later today.

Well the bed project is almost done it started with a 240 lbs bed and now it is only 90 lbs. with a 150 lbs loss i will post more pics next time i take it out of the garage. but here are some that i had on my phone. Keep in mine when it is all taken apart the only thing that stays on is the roll pan. It makes working on it alot easier.

Here is a cost brake down.
2- 4x10 .040 black alum $110.00
2- 1"x24' square tube $18.00
1- 1/2" X 24' square tube $7.00
1 1/2" x1/2" angle iron $12.00
aluminum wheel tubs $87.99
Quarter turn fastners, springs, and brackets $127.00

Totaled $361.99 + tax and or shipping.

It came out to $2.41 a pound of weight loss.

Oh I almost forgot add a 12 pack of beer for everyday when you work on it.

Well I scaled the truck today and it was 2759 lbs, with me in it 2964 lbs not where I want it but its a start. I'm looking to knock another 264 lbs off of it. At 2700 with driver it should fly. also too some pics.

What's the advantage of the cantilevered shock setup? Never seen that before, :cool4:

Was thinking the same thing...

Bed looks awesome...
I was thinking about trying to do something like that to mine...
I may copy some of your ideas if you dont care...

Feel free to copy anything you want, the cantilevered shocks was an idea that my friend had and so far they seem to work just fine. The only advantage is its very easy to adjust, because you dont have toget under the truck todo so.

It also removes some unsprung weight, but I wasn't sure if that was the only benefit, :cool4:

Well I'm at it again starting on the front end to make room for the alky. set up. I stripped the front down cut the frame in front of the snout bars that I will plate later in the build. I made a plate to lower the fuel pump 7" below the normal mounting spot on the block. I'm hoping to mount my 5 gal tank in the front if not I'll have to spend some more money on another tank. also going to a smaller radiator and seperate trans cooler.

Radiator support 24 lbs.

Metal Bumper 18 lbs.

Two Frame ends that were cut off 17 lbs.

So far its down to 2670 lbs this will come up some with the metal I use to frame everything up with.

i like the work you're doing, but i gotta ask.

if you're going through the trouble of making the truck lighter, how come you still have those massive drums in the back? wouldnt disc be lighter? and thats lighter rotational weight too.

i drag race snowmobiles and even in "stock" classes, we look to get weight down everywhere to get it to that mark that the isr rules state they should weigh. the first thing that comes to mind for me is anything thats rotational in the drivetrain, since it not only makes overall weight lighter, but frees up horsepower as about 5 lbs is equal to 1hp, esp rotational, and it adds up.

I was pretty busy today got the intake plumed up, and the toilet mounted, also installed the new 4 gal tank in the front i'm not much of a fabracator but it came out ok. I also mounted my plastic bumper and grill so they can be removed if needed. Here are some pics if anyone has anyother ideas feel free to let me know.
