We been getting loaners from the supplier at the shop lately, so far I've sprayed with the 400 LV and the 400 LVX(same gun, different cap).
They lay down basecoat so much nicer than my RP its rediculous. The LVX takes all the BS out of spraying high metallics colors, no striping, mottling, or blotching at all with no drop coats.
Not to mention the Iwata, with a full cup weighs just a little more than my Sata empty.
I think I may have to get me one of these soon:cool4:

Try buying a brand new Sata Jet for that. :bling:
I have the Iwata, it's been out a couple years. It's a nice gun, I go between that and the DeVilbiss, depending on what I'm spraying. I actually bought it for water. Has anyone tried the 3M primer gun with the disposable fluid tip? Our jobber dropped it off last week and I haven't tried it yet. Each tip is supposed to be good for about 15 uses. It's supposed to spray great. About $150 for the gun. Didn't ask what the tips cost. The down side for us is it uses the 3M PPS cups only and we're set up for DeVilbiss.

Haven't seen that one yet, may be something to look into before I commit on a Sata BF 100.

I might use it today, if I do, I'll post what I think about it. The GTI I use for primer now is a 1.3, and I love the way it lays it out. The 3M gun is supposed to be the equivilent of a 1.8, so I'm a little leary about using it on a newer Corvette.
Slowdime, the 3M gun is made by Acuspray, but I was going to try it anyway against my better judgement. I looked in the box with the gun and all I found was 3 oz liners for the pps cups. I called the jobber and they said that's the only ones they give out with the demo gun because 3 oz cups are exempt on spray guns for the area source rule. wtf? that doesn't even go into effect till Jan of '11. I was going to use it to seal a Corvette bumper cover (alot of area) and didn't want to screw around filling the 3 oz cup so I just used the GTI.Anyhoo, I still plan on trying it, but small jobs we usually UV out in the shop instead of firing up the booth.

looks cheap BUT it does do a good job Word of warning if using it out in the shop TURN THE LINE PRESSURE DOWN it will blow the tip off. found out the hard way lol. clean up is easy have had the gun gun for a couple months only on the second tip killed the frist one when it blew off. It is a great cheap primer gun would not try to use it for sealer puts out to much material.

I haven't been spraying much lately, but using cheap chinese gravity feeders has worked ok. Pretty soon everyone will be using the water crap. VOCs are a thing of the past. I think you will be hooking your vaccuum cleaner to your gun to paint! :fighting15:
Since I closed my shop, stuff has changed so fast I can't keep up. I still paint a race car a couple times a month, but stuff is going to change gents. :nono:

My next gun will be the Iwata...I'm so done with SATA and the overpriced crap they push...
I know everyone sprays differently. That being said I honestly am very disappointed with the quality of the Iwata. I've had them before and liked them, but the 400 feels like a piece of crap. The cup wobbles badly when spun off the gun body and the fitting on the bottom of the cup is loose from the cup.So I gotta use a wrench to get the cup off. also theres a round hump in the bottom of the cup that doesnt let all the paint into the gun passage. I know all this would be eliminated with the PPS, but I really think they could have done a better job.
I dont think it atomizes that well either. Kinda "dots" material on. I've adjusted everything every way, and I'm not impressed for the money. The end product is good, but I'm not comfortable while spraying with it.Its a 1.3, I may try a smaller fluid tip. It sprays like an old bomber with a 1.8 fluid tip.
Maybe I got a bad one. My buddy has one, maybe I'll borrow his and see if its any better.I have been spraying professionally for 41 years, and have taught alot of guys to spray as a troubleshooter for a PPG store. I'm not a huge Sata fan either, but I'd put my 10 yr old NR 2000 ahead of my Iwata.
I thought I'd give the Iwata (which I've had over a year and hated it when I got it) a fair shake before I rated it, so I blew the dust off it and have been using it every day for the last month.I actually bought it for waterborne, and am unimpressed.I'll take a GTI with a 1.2 at half the price over the Iwata

One thing I did learn is the gun has to fit the hand that shoots the paint
Yeah, everybody's different. I guess it just doesnt suit me. I've sprayed alot of guns I like better. It just feels cheezy to me. That NR 95 is a good gun. Like I said, maybe I just got a bad one. It happens

i have 3 of the Iwata 400 gun's 1.2, 1.3, 1.4 they are ok guns the only thing i have seen with them is I have to use a little more air pressure than i like to spray with to get it to lay down good

Wow how did i miss this thread so long,
I've really gotten dialed in with the LVX lately. It lays everything down so nice I could teach my little sister to spray with it. I like the 400's, but there's no way in hell I'd buy a supernova after the jobber showed us one, looked like a toy.
We also got the Accuspray, lays primer nice and super light, but it kinda sucks constantly filling them 3oz cups when im priming in the shop
The Ainst-Iwata Rep was at my shop yesterday. He put water in the gun and sprayed a patern check on masking paper on my booth wall. He gave me a puzzled look and said "WTF"? He said mine was the worst he's ever seen. Very heavy in the canter and light as overspray on the edges. I sprayed one at the PPG R&D Center almost 4 yrs ago and loved it, so I bought one. I didnt realize it was that long ago. I thought the gun was a year or two old, but he told me it was one of the first ones. I looked at the certification for that class and he was right. Apparently when they first came out they had problems, and I got a bad one. He replaced the cup (Spun on the fitting that went to the gun body, had to wrench it off, and it wobbled when you spun it) Replaced both aircaps,(silver and gold) and fluid tip. Its much better now, and wont be collecting dust like it did for the first few years of its life.
