Hey everyone,
I'm getting close to starting the cage and need to know how you guys are attaching to your frame.
I want to tuck it in as close to the interior walls as much as possible. The front and rear cab mounts look to be in the exact spot that I would like to connect the main hoop and front pillar bar.
I have some 2x3 rectangle tubing that I had planned to use for outriggers, but can I just weld a plate to solid cab mounts and weld the cage to it?
Any pics would be greatly appreciate :10:

the 2x3 is fine but you need to cut the front cab mount off and replace with the tubing I will have pics tonight

tony you got the right idea. depending what class you want to run , the main hoop and the front hoop has to be welded to the frame. that'll get you to the 9's .the more bars the better. the front hoop goes thru the dash speakers. the front bar goes under/ inside the dash . remember the top hoop has to be so far from your helmet. door bars no lower than your shoulder. hell just look in the nhra rule book. if you plan to run events in the 1/4, but if not it doesn't matter 1/8 mile racing you can run almost nothing. no trans/ flywheel shieds, out dated seat belts no fire suits, no cert., harmonic balancers no engine diapers the list goes on. this weekend i'm helping mike put in a 6 piont in el cheapo and setting his rear up . you can bt there'll be pics . good luck have fun . IT'S ALL ABOUT THE S10. NOT HOW DEEP YOUR POCKETS ARE !

Hi Dan,
I'm not sure how fast I'm going, but I want to have the cage good for the unexpected (9's would be good...) I have a few friends that ended up having their cage redone, because they didn't plan to run too fast and then did... I'm just going to take my time and do it right the first time, at least that's the plan...
I have the welder, bender and Bend-Tech program. Tubing is not too expensive, so I plan to take my time and not rush into a regret :10:
I would like to keep it NHRA legal as I plan to race at Firebird Raceway from time to time. They will tech the truck to NHRA spec's to the T... The other track that I will race more frequently does not enforce everything the book says.
I did pick up the 2009 NHRA rule book a few weeks ago and pretty much understand what they require. I just need to figure out the best way to tie it to the frame.
Let me know how the 6-point goes with Mike and don't have too much fun :cool4:

i was looking over a nice s10 at the track on friday nite , he had a full cage and while looking under the hood i could see a 2x2 outrigger roughly 8" long the cage was welded to that i was gonna snap some images but got busy chatting , i,ll get some next race , he did some neat tricks to the truck and sure gutted the box and tailgate out

You can also contact sfi and get a book on cage certifications. Mine was like $25 for a 25.2 chassis. It will go into detail about the bar sizes and wall thickness. For anyone doing a cage I reccomend doing this. I can't explain enough how useful it is. You can order prints from chassis builders but they are like $200 and up. And they don't take into account creativity or obsticals you may have with your setup.

Here are a couple of pages to give you an idea. It's very detailed about the size of pipe wall thickness and even the coping on the ends have to be at a max of 45 degrees for welding toanother pipe. This will get you a safe built cage that is sure to meet chassis cert.

And there are several different different designs and pictures to go with them. The most helpful you can get as far as a cage goes is to order a book on your et predictions. For what it sounds like I would go with a 25.5 setup then you can go as quick as 7.50 if you ever want to.

Well, I finally took the time to learn the Bend Tech Pro program and I drew up the first draft of my cage. :10:
Take a look at the pics and let me know if you see anything that I should add or modify.
Thanks! :cool4:

I see what you mean on the diagonal bar, from your truck. Can you still have a passenger with that bar? I want the ability to take someone for a ride down the track :smile5:
I was thinking about the x-brace on the bars to the back of the truck. We did that on my son's Pre-runner. I'll put those in for sure. :10:

I have the Pro version not the SE. I like the program, I just need to bend my first cage and see how accurate it work for me :)

It wasn't too hard for me, because I've been around computers for a long time. It comes with a good manual and you can follow the demo that I posted here --> http://www.s10racer.com/board/showthread.php?t=413
I just stopped the video and tried to follow him on the program. I had to redo it a couple of times until I pretty much had the same cage. It gives you the basic principals of the program, but it can do much more.
