View Full Version : mounting slicks
when you guys mount your slicks, with out tubes do you do any thing special to help with bead not leaking or just mount them up?
I orded some quick time pros for my wifes 67 c10 today, I will try this no tube, no wheel screw thing out with these slicks, I got them for I have them on my blazer and they are damn good, I dont think I have to worry abought it spinning, not enough power for that, but dont want it to leak air

I us that black tire glue BEAD SEAT COMPOUND I cant think of the exact name of it. A friend I know works at a tire shop and he used it on my Hoosiers they use to leak down like 3lbs a min. Now they hold the same pressure and dont leak down any more and the tires do not spin on the rim..

I have also heard of people "slathering" rubber cement just before seating the bead.
I was told it cleans up easy too.
I use rim screws with no tubes...
Mine were mounted and aired up the day before the S10 Nationals in March and still have air in them...

I gave up on rim scews, and use Permatex High Tach on the beads of my radials.
The importance of lining up the rim screws is often overlooked. They need to be exactly across from each other, on the front, and back. If they are staggerd it will cause the tire to distort. I've also seen the bead shredded by the rim screws, when it slipped on them. Not to mention the PITA it is to reseal a set on different rims, after they have been screwed.

I drilled mine in the CNC mill, so they are a perfect bolt circle and even... :laughoutloud:
I will look into getting some of that permatex stuff, the quick time pros came in today a lil taller, which will be good , I have them on my blazer, mine are 4yrs old and still work excellent, my wife will be happy!!!!! anymore thoughts on how you guys run these with no tubes and wheel screws fire away, now I need to scrub that white leatter crap off there

Bead sealer and bolt in stems FTW. You don't need screws for radials lol. I've mounted several quick time pros and mickey thompson slicks with just a thin coat of bead seal.
