well I have my build on 3 different sites, so this is just going to get you up to speed on whats gone on so far.
I got my truck half done with what I thought was a 5.3, the truck had the engine and a built 4l60e already in it, just needed wiring and cooling done. I planned on getting some ported heads and a mild cam before putting it togather. but as you will see this all changed...
http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff228/studly350/IMG_2974.jpg
http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff228/studly350/mytruck2.jpg
I pulled the heads to put a set of ported heads on and found that I had a cylinder that was rusted out, and that it was a 4.8.
http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff228/studly350/IMG_2999.jpg
so after a short search I found a low mile 6.0 lq4 out of a rolled h2

my demolished engine bay
http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff228/studly350/IMG_3117.jpg
I didn't take pictures of everything I put into it. I have a tr224cam, ls2 timing chain, 3000 fuddle stall, ported ls6 heads, ported ls6 oil pump, hardened pushrods, dual springs, yella terra 1.8 roller rockers, and the headers from brp. the truck will be dropped 4 inches all around and i'm getting a set of daggers
got my guage cluster in and installed it. took me longer to figure out which one to install then it did to put it in. thanks bro:tup:
http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff228/studly350/IMG_3236.jpg
got my rear all stripped down, taking it to get narrowed after I finish this post.

got my posi out and torn down, and installed the ford motor sports carbon clutch kit. if you do this do not handle the friction modifier without gloves, it is the worst smelling stuff I have EVER used and it soaks into your hands. seriously its still making my feel sick.

long overdue update
engine mock up, it was a beautiful sight
http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff228/studly350/IMG_3279.jpg
got in my headers from headman, long story short I got the long tubes cause the mids weren't done yet. they fit great even let you turn pretty well, unless you want ac. since this is my daily i'll be getting the mids from them intstead. oh and you would need to mod your trans cross member to clear the collectors.
http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff228/studly350/IMG_3280.jpg
http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff228/studly350/IMG_3281.jpg
I test fit all the ones on the driver side just don't have pics, you will need to mod your brake lines, it wouldn't be difficult especially compared to the rest of this headache.

03-09-2009, 12:30 AM
oh and in case anyone needed to know jareds cooling setup fits just fine with truck acc. I was pretty worried about those big fans but there is still a bit of clearance.
http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff228/studly350/IMG_3285.jpg
http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff228/studly350/IMG_3286.jpg
this last pic gave me some motivation, too bad I have to take it all back out. notch a hair more out of the ac notch, don't need to but it will make me more comfortable. weld it up, bolt in mounts, and put on oil pan. then it will go back in for good.
I worked and painted and shaved my truck intake, and then I picked this up for a steal.
http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff228/studly350/IMG_3417.jpg
ls6 intake with ported ls1 throttle body. rails and injectors on the way. still need a waterpump, and the ias and tps for the dbc trottle body, but at least I wont need to wire in the new pedal.
more to come soon, spring break is in a week, I'm taking a day or 2 off work and getting this thing in so my roomate can finish up my wiring.
lsx10
03-09-2009, 12:33 AM
well I got a few things done
got my oil pan and pickup tube. I didn't want to renotch the frame, and I didn't want to run a truck pan since I'm dropping her. I broke down and got the lh8 pan(h3a), and now I'm a little more broke. brp has this nifty little thing for a little insurance for sealing to the oil pump.
http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff228/studly350/IMG_3326.jpg
http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff228/studly350/IMG_3327.jpg
http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff228/studly350/IMG_3328.jpg
finally got jareds(currentperformance) cooling setup installed, dont follow the directions, just test fit it and the make your cuts for the mounts. looks great in there though.

PM me if you need a good OS.. I have 100's
Keep the old drive and just slave it for back up files..
I use external drive and save everything until I burn the files..
Then put the cd's or dvd's up.. (Use them only when you need them)..
People don't understand.. hard drives and media (cd, dvd, flash drives..etc) are wearing out every time you use them..
I need pic updates..lol

I got a TON of other parts in but i'll update that later when my computer gets fixed, now onto the important stuff.
My garage looks like this right now.... how does a small truck take up a 2 car garage from wall to wall?
http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff228/studly350/IMG_3643.jpg
energy suspension bushings and end links installed with the extreme swaybar.
http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff228/studly350/IMG_3638.jpg
the blazer brakes didn't like my wheels so I picked up some half in spacers from the local rod shop and some longer studs. I picked up some upper controll arms from speedway motors with some new ball joints. belltech 2in drop springs and drop shocks. New ceramic pads are installed in the blazer brakes.
http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff228/studly350/IMG_3684.jpg
http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff228/studly350/IMG_3685.jpg
ripped out old tank and made room for my blazer tank. I have a walbro 255 that will be added to the blazer tank before it is installed. oh and I love my new sawsall!
http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff228/studly350/IMG_3630.jpg
http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff228/studly350/IMG_3641.jpg
I turned my ford green top injectors(42lb) into black tops, cleaned up my intake and painted to match the engine block, cleaned up the fuel rail, cleaned up the last of my accessories and finally got my engine in its final resting place. installed my new ac box, installed 4.3 throttle cable and installed my pedal. I set the motor too far back and had to elongate the holes in the mounts to move it forward enough to clear the ac box. I talked to brp and they designed new mounts that bolt into the stock frame holes so this wont be an issue for anyone else.
http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff228/studly350/IMG_3689.jpg
http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff228/studly350/IMG_3703.jpg
http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff228/studly350/IMG_3698.jpg
installed tranny x-member and heat matted where my cats and headers will be run. tranny member fits great! I have enough room for 4 inch duals under here!
http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff228/studly350/IMG_3694.jpg
Hopefully I will have more updates soon. I will be on TDY for 2 weeks, hopefully I will get my rear set up before I leave but i'm not crossing my fingers. I hade some slight fitment issues with the headers that I will be calling headman about, but I will be making these ones work with some steering shaft modification.

a few small updates
ordered my wiring from current performance, I was going to try it myself but I can't let this truck not be running when school starts or I would never get her done.
ordered my first welder! a licoln 180 amp/240v mig welder, b-day present from my beautiful wife! I'm stoked, it gets here on tuesday:smile5:
not too much else so far, going to be working on her this weekend but I can't say it will be too exciting till I get my welder in. as soon as that little baby gets in here I will fab up gas tank mounts for the blazer tank, weld on my spring pads and get the rear all finished, get my exhaust fabbed up, fix my steering shaft, notch my frame for the headers or fix the other set to work with ac. then i'll just be waiting for the wiring to get her all togather.
this weekend i'll be cleaning up my engine bay even more and installing 240 in my garage.

here she is with a new belt routed for the car style intake. if you do it like this you will need a spacer about 3/4 inches thick or a ton of washers, a longer bolt, and a belt that is 102 inches long to 102.5 inches long, any shorter or longer and it wont work. it took me 4 belts to find that out. 100 and 101 were both too short, and a 102.7 fit but didn't have enough tension on it.

lets hope, I tried to put my rear togather this weekend and am having trouble with one side of my axle. but axle shaft fit into one side, but niether fit in the other without forcing it. the old axle shaft(that is too long) fits without an issue so I know the splines are clean but I cant figure out wtf is not right. a buddy of mine is coming over tomorrow to get a second set of eyes on it.
my welder gets here then too so i'll have my rear assembled tomorrow if all goes well, then the daggers on and driveshaft in.

I spent half of yesterday and most of my free time today helping my buddy put long tube headers and off road Y pipe on his 2000 trans am, so I didn't get to work on my truck till 6:30.
well I got half done putting my gas tank in today and then I ran out of welding wire. at 8:30 at night on sunday.... so I sanded and painted my inner fenders to match the firewall and called it a night. I still have to move all my furniture out of my house tonight so that the carpet can get installed tomorrow morning.
I have tomorrow off so I'll get more wire and get all this stuff finished. tomorrow i'm picking up a battery and a relocator kit and tossing my battery in my bed, or under it if I can find some space.

well I picked up more wire and got the last of my tank mounts finished up, cut the frame for the filler tube, got the rest of the battery relocating stuff, and relocated the charcoal canister. also cleaned, primed, and painted the inner fenders to match the firewall. before I put the front end together I will be painting everything in the engine bay to match the firewall.
I also got news today that my wiring will be here on wednesday!
and on to the pics, the tank sits nice and high but still clears the bed without cutting any of the supports.

then instead of getting the 85mm tb I ported the intake out to a 90mm and picked up a bluemaxxx 90mm. there are more wet kit options and it should be worth a few ponies.

Well I'm not going to update you guys with everything because my camera died, but I have still have some good stuff for you guys.
I had to pull the heads back off to lap the valves in. that sucked...
but I got the valves all sealed up. got the heads back on, got the headers back on, dipsticks in, intake and throttle body on, rails and injectors in. wiring done, and most of the front end done with.

http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff228/studly350/IMG_4118.jpg
my coils didn't fit so I took a grinder and a welder to the brackets and they fit great now. these will fit over the injectors between the rails and the valve covers. i'll be cleaning them up tomorrow before they are put on.

okay
now to catch up on what went on before starting it. many trips to the parts store and a little fab work to make this big square peg fit in a round hole. excuse the dirty pics, the dust makes my engine bay look like crap.
first off the radiator hoses. these are numbers from orilies/checker auto and with a little trimming they fit better then most hoses made for stock trucks.
upper hose
http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff228/studly350/IMG_4146.jpg
http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff228/studly350/IMG_4145.jpg
lower hose
http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff228/studly350/IMG_4143.jpg
numbers, sorry I dont remember which was top and wich was bottom. but these will fit currents radiator with a 07 and up truck water pump. the lower hose should fit anhttp://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff228/studly350/IMG_4153.jpgy truck water pump.
next up is spark plug wires. after i raised the coils my stock wires didnt fit, so I got a set of make-your-own and cut them to fit
http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff228/studly350/IMG_4147-1.jpg
I installed my brake system, computer, and most everything else, in the engine bay.
http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff228/studly350/IMG_4160.jpg
installed my condencer again after trimming so that I can get some lines onto it when I install my ac in the summer. then installed my tranny cooler, its a b&m plate style cooler.
http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff228/studly350/IMG_4159.jpg
I had some questions about installing the filler neck so here are some pics and info on that.
-I notched the frame for the filler neck, then welded in reinforcements so it was still solid.
-I took some measurements and went to my local exhaust shop and had them bend me a 2" tube. I had them cut it 30" long and do a 90 degree bend in the middle, then trimmed each side at home to my liking.
-I cut a hole when I wanted my filler neck to enter my bedthat was large enough for me to work in a little.
-I welded on the top of my old filler neck onto the tube at an angle of around 40-45 dergrees so it pointed inside the bed. be sure to weld on the little vent tubeon the side or it will be a pain to fill up.
-I ran a soft line on the vent side from the top by the filler neck down to the tank, get some large fuel hose, do not use heater hose or it will deteriorate quickly.
-I used the stock rubber ends off the stock blazer tank to connect the exhaust tube to the tank.
-once I had everything in place I marked where I wanted to put some tabs and welded them on to keep the new filler neck in place. I welded nuts to the tabs then welded the tabs to the filler neck so that I wouldnt have to worry about holding a nut on the inside of the bed while turning a bolt on the other side.
all in all it did not take me much time once I had it in my head what I wanted to do. working by myself i did it in an evening and total cost was less then $50. it fits with plenty of clearance too.
onto the pics
tank to frame(note the plate welded in place.)

and lastly the filler neck in the bed
http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff228/studly350/IMG_4139.jpg
to do list
-install drive shaft
-bleed brakes
-install grill, lights and bumper.
-tune
-make intake
-intall wideband
-fab exhaust
-find bedcover
-burn tires off

drove it to school last night and drove it to work this morning. its running very poorly because of the tune, cruses fine but I cant take it over 3500 rpms. and if I go WOT(wide open throttle) it floods itself. tranny is leaking like a sob from the front seal so I need to change that out. and right now my exhaust is just mufflers clamped onto my collectors so its loud as hell, that will get worked out this weekend.
it still felt great to drive it. i'm getting tons of looks in it.
I really wanted to tune this thing myself but i'm behind on school right now so I really dont have time to learn how to do that right now. I'll try to get this thing tuned before the end of the week, have to find a shop and get some prices to see if I even can.
I need taller tires too, i'm running at 2800 rpms to hit 75mph

well the truck is back on jackstands and the tranny is on the garage floor. I had a tq converter made for my truck that was supposed to adapt the older style 4l60e to my 6.0. and it doesnt fit. tried to get ahold of fuddle racing who built it for me and they apparently went under, their site is down and the phone number has been disconnected.
going to see if I can find a converter shop or machine shop that can lengthen the pilot on the converter to make one of my tq converters fit.

there was a puddle of tranny fluid on the floor after a minute of running it. this thing is going to be the death of me.
so tranny is back on the floor of the garage, I looked at it as good as I could while it was running and its coming out of the front seal. hope it doesnt run too much to fix, Ii'm going to take my 2 converters and the tranny to a shop on monday and have them find out what will work.

its not looking like i'll be able to use my other converter. got the tranny half in, checked the stall to flexplate spacing and its way off. got pissed off and came inside to do some house progects. looks like I might end up converting this tranny to a 300mm lsx tranny, which I really didnt want to have to do. I know have had to redo every single thing that was done on this truck when I got it as a "95 percent done project"
if i could get half of what I put into this thing it would be gone. I love working on stuff but only when progress is being made. this is now the 5th time i've had the tranny in and out in a month. gonna take a week off from her and try again.

well guys I have good and bad news, the good news is that she will be on the road soon. the bad news is she will be under the power of a mild cam 5.3
this project started as a daily build and got a little out of hand, I'm fe up with trying to fix the tranny issues and the 6.0 is getting a new home and will be backed by either a built 65e or more likely an 80e. more details and pics to come this week.
mia is getting a 5.3 with a texas speed old man cam and matching valve train upgrades but nothing much else, also she will be getting the proper tranny and a 2600-2800 stall. her new heart is in the garage, and the last few parts are on the way.
the 6.0 is going in the new project..... details to come.

6.0 is out and will be getting some goodies before going into abby.
got the 5.3 and the right 4l60e in along with the goodies I got for them. I didnt detail this engine as much but once the intake and the last of the front brackets are on you wont be able to see the timing chain cover and valley cover anyways. I cant find a good deal on an ls6 intake so the truck intake will be going back on for now.
only pic I grabbed before leaving for school this morning.

I put the pro poducts rails on the truck intake, it was really easy, i just couldnt find anyone who had truck rails for a decent price so I figured I would use what I had. turned out really clean. I rewired the harness for the truck injectors, and tied up a few other loose ends.

took her through emissions last night and got her to pass the 3rd time I went. I forgot to re-enable some codes I took out when I first had her running. the lady at the emissions place made me laugh. she opened up the gas door to check my gas cap and its no longer there. but she just started searching in the gas door like it was just hideing from her or something. she looked at me like i had a third eye when I pulled it out of the bed.
there was a few kids that were working there that kept pointing at my truck and talking to eachother. finally one of them came over and asked if it was 4 linked. and I told him it was just the link style bars. I talked with him a little while and he told me he loved the truck and it sounded great, I guess he had a 99 dakota r/t with a 408 in it. I went to ask him more about his truck but he got called back to work.
I need wider rubber, when I get her to stick in 1st she loses traction again when she hits 2nd. and she is still untuned for the most part, all I have done is adjust the shift points and pressures. but luckily the stock engine tune is keeping me at a safe AFR, I'm picking up a new battery for my laptop and am going to start tuning the engine this weekend. I want to get her to the track but I dont think i'll be able to this weekend, but I will soon. If I dont hit 12s i'll be adding a wet shot, I might add one anyways just for kicks and killing turbos.

For the cost of a new intake, a good carb and the conversion msd box you could buy the harness to make the computer run the stock computer and work with your gagues. If your only going to run it on the track it won't matter much, but if you plan on building a daily I would look into getting the fuel injection working.

the tune needs work but is safe. I keep an eye on everything with my scanner and wideband. no knocking anf afr is 14.4-14.8 at idle and 14.5 on the throttle 12.0 at WOT. I know once I lean her out just a hair and get the timing set she will be a beast.
after these tires are gone i'll be rocking some wider tires, maybe some drag radials on the rear, these dont keep traction too well.

84 c10 scsb "Abby" more to come on her next weekend, I have drill this weekend so no track times for mia, wrench time on Abby or time in general...

only chopped the long axle side down to the same size as the short axle.(2.5 or 3 inches I dont remember now) then used 2 stock short axles. the stock axles are 31 spline and are plenty beefy. it was cheap to do but if you can I would narrow it a little further, to run a 10 inch wheel you need 6 inches of backspacing..

hey man, things have been going slowly, the wife was out of work for a while so all truck progress stopped, anything that wasnt already paid for anyways. abby got dropped, and mia is running crappy again, looks like my fuel pump was an immitation walbro...
never got her tuned, made another appointment and he cancelled again, i'm just gonna have to get a mail order one. I was hoping to learn more about how to do it myself but the tunning manual is hella expencive and I cant find anyone locally to help me out. hopefully more to come soon, but we'll see. The wife starts a new job after thanksgiving, but she will be making alot less then what she was so truck money will be limited...

It happens in the best of familys bro! I'm damn lucky my family has this business.
Bryan herter at PCMforless.com tuned Ruby. Very easy to work with, and prices are good.
Ruby is running great, besides looking like Rover's Ass! She's a ugly bitch, be she runs!
Best of luck for your family this Holiday season.
Later
Justin
