I am one of the 11+% in the wonderful state of SC unemployed. Was a major shock to me Friday. Myself along with 7 others were let go. Some of which was a no brainer due to their work abilites. More are getting laid off from where I work this coming week.
Sucks major, because so far I can not find what I do within a 200 mile radius of me.
Here is to you wonderful economy and the ones who got it here :2up:
Good thing is I have to talk to a guy monday at a place where a good friend works. Lets hope that works out. And if not another friend is going to try real hard to get me a federal job. If they can print money they can get me a job right :laughoutloud:
Let's hope I can find something within a week. Or I really really hate to be getting unemployment. I can't stay at home. I enjoy working. Gives me something to do.
Oh well. SHit happens and it happened to shit on me.

Well, I went and talked to a very large Hvac shop/sheetmetal fabrication shop today. They have over 100+ applications on file. A really good friend of mine works there and has been talking to the guy in charge of it. And needless to say , I have been bumped WAY ahead of everyone and the manager is actually contacting the crews in the field to see if they need a hand out there. IF not, I can do shop fabrication with no problem. He will let me know what he hears.
Paul, the friend who got me there is going to push him even further in the morning. :D
I used to always talk shit about people who had inside connections etc etc. But, within the last couple years of my life I have come to the realization that it is a must to survive.
Which also helps is my professional credentials as well. Work experience (not years on the job) helps me out. The more you know the further you go right? Which is kinda why I got let go at the other company. The money I was making was one reason along with the length of employment there. No biggie. I will always try to stay afloat.
I also filed a resume for the federal government and about to apply for some jobs if I do not hear anything from my local shop.
Only downside though is being away from my family. I found work at FT. Leavenworth, some place in Rhode Island, Norfolf Virginia and some in California (no way in hell will my semi southern ass go to the west coast)

Knowing people on the inside is always a plus especially now in poor economic times. I know, I've been through a few. This is why as you hold jobs you had to fight for you make friends. its called "networking". Networking is the most common way for someone to find a job. They have an honest reference for the employer to go by. The employer will take a recommened potential employee over someone they do not know. Why is this... The current employee will not(hopefully) recommend someone that they will regret making a recommendation for in the future. Hence better odds of finding a good one.
Just hold your head up high and don't let it get you down. Your not alone and its nothing you did to cause it.

I just finally applied for unemployment today. Not as much as I was making. But I can survive if I do little odds and end stuff as well. Guess I have time to actually finish cutting in the wheel tubs for the black truck (made them at previous employer) and just do small projects on the truck
