I got out of the business about the time the hvlp guns started coming on strong. Still got my old Devilbis and my Binks #7. What's the latest and greatest?

I watched an episode on "Trucks" where they painted a 65 truck green..
Looks great.. I would like to try the system out one day..

I just attended a couple of classes on water base there is a lot more to the use of this system than the manufactures want to tell you. As you would expect very sensitive to temp and humidity.

Sata jets are good, and theres alot of hype floating around the new Iwata's.

Haven't had a chance to play with water based stuff yet, of course I havent needed to EPA aint crackin the whip too hard down here in FL.

hehehe..

I run DeVilbiss..
I have a Tekna High Efficiency Gravity Feed - 703065
and a DeVilbiss PLUS High Efficiency Gravity Feed - GFG-670..
I also have a couple of the "Finishline" combo kits.. for primer along with some mini's as well.

I'm not a pro by any means.. but, I do have fun. :)

Devilbiss is better than my SATA in a lot of ways. Parts are WAY cheaper! I won't buy another one!

I have noticed I can buy parts just about anywhere..
But, It seams like anyone who is any good uses SATA so.. I dont know..

I bought all my equipment with the thought of trying to do a killer paint job like
Mike Lavallee! I am creative enough but, I doubt I will ever have the skills!

I am still looking into an Airbrush and buying some stencils.
We shall see..

I have the new Ainst Iwata(sp) 400. Its OK. I've got Sata guns, too. I think its what you get comfortable with, and I'm so used to my GTI's, its hard to get used to anything else. Its the same as getting used to your favorite hammer, or golf club, I think. And like the "Waterboy" says, "Water sucks! It really really sucks!!!" Because of the Area Source Rule, we have to comply by 2012, or go through witch hunt inspections. Its easy to shoot, but as a shop owner, the expense is a killer. Guns have to be stainless, I have to retrofit my downdraft bake booth with blowers,my tints now are useless(about $9,000 worth, my paint shaker( $1,300)and mixing machine($6,500)are big paperweights, and the new tints have a shelf life. They say the tints are about the same price, but what they just forget to tell you is that solvent based paint is reduced a minimum of 100% Water is 10%! So you go through tints like mad. Now I have to pay another hazardous waste bill and buy another spray gun washer(min $1,500).And we still use solvent based primers and clears! WTF? I gotta admit though, PPG's water is easy to spray and the color matches are killer. If you guys use PPS cups, you could run into a problem. As the bag collapses the material flow gets restricted and it throws off the color match on your control coat..They say you need to turn the gun upside down and "burp" it.

xten,
Thats going to be a rough transition for you.. (And many others)
It almost seems like it will be the same as bootlegging just to get a "Old School" paint job.

I have a lot of land with a big fence and don't allow trespassers.
If I want to paint my truck.. well, you get the idea :)

A finish line kit would be fine.

This may be what you're looking for. http://www.autobodytoolmart.com/devilbiss-finishline-gravity-feed-hvlp-painters-kit-p-14427.aspx

Thats sounds like a great setup, Mike. It really makes a good hobby, but hasn't been the best business to be in lately.
Theres a bunch more BS we have to keep track of now. Keeping logs of when we change booth filters. How much paint stripper we use, etc.
The way they're making it sound, you can still use solvent based color, but they're gonna bury you in paperwork, and put you on the "All Time Sucker" list, where an endless stream of govt. officials will me marching in, and inspecting. Its easier just to comply. It wont be hard to make the transition, the paint works well and is very easy to use. The hard part for me is the added expense and the paperwork. I hate paperwork. Gives you less time to actually get anything productive done.
