and found a trophy I won with a street car I had. I purchased a clean 1983 Monte Carlo LS, the proverbial little old lady car. I bought a 1996 Vortec 350 pull out, from back when they were having the warranty issues due to the leaking intake gaskets, for $200. 00. I didn't build it, I just changed a few parts. I installed a Comp Cams hydraulic roller, and installed rocker studs so I could run roller rockers and be able to adjust them. To this I bolted on a GM single plane aluminum intake, a 750 hp carb, and a big shot NOS kit. I added a built turbo 400, a PTC convertor, a Buick GN rear with c clip eliminators, aerospace brakes all around, a roll cage, and a set of weld wheels. Car came in at 3200 lbs without the driver. This car had the AC working and the cruise as well. I usually ran this car with street M/T's thru the mufflers. At about 500 passes, i changed the head gaskets, checked the bearings, looked new, and buttoned her back up. After another 500 or so, I did the same thing. This engine is still together in a friends garage waiting on the finish of his truck.

This was a pump gas street ride that on street tires thru the muffs ran 10:88 consistently. On a grudge race tune with the big jets on slicks without the muffs, I went a best of 10:42. This was 16 years ago. I'm sure I've forgotten a lot since then...
